Autism specific holidays

If you have a child in your family with an autistic spectrum disorder, and are searching for ideas for a holiday, Palmeiras may well be just what you are looking for.

A change in your child's routine can cause stress and anxiety, and it can be comforting to know that your holiday accommodation can provide a peaceful retreat, giving you the reassurance you need to have a holiday which is both relaxing and fun for all the family.

Palmeiras is set in a peaceful valley, so you need have no immediate concerns about the dangers of road traffic. The cottages gardens provide privacy, whilst still allowing great space for freedom of movement and play. The pool can provide enormous pleasure for children who enjoy swimming, but may be a calming introduction to those who as yet are not able to tolerate swimming or water play. The climate in the Algarve is mild all year round (making it comfortable for those children who have a tendancy to be naked!) and there are plenty of shaded areas to sit on hotter days. We also have a 12' trampoline. (We suggest adults supervise their children closely at all times when using this equipment).

Many children with autism and their siblings will want to enjoy more typical holiday attractions, and we are able to recommend those within easy reach of the farm. ZooMarine, a water theme park with spectacular live shows, fun fair and aquarium is open year round, and is only a 25 minute drive away.  Other outdoor based local attractions which may appeal to children include water fun parks, horse trekking, animal conservation centres, and a selection of wonderful beaches with a wide range of (seasonal) water sports on offer. Other attractions such as a bowling alley, cinema and child friendly restaurants can offer possibilities for family evenings out.

We understand that you may have questions or concerns when considering planning your holiday. We will be happy to communicate with you by email or over the telephone, and will do our best to help you plan a holiday to remember.

Our holiday cottages are not specifically designed for children or adults with autism but are, in our opinion, appropriate for people with autism and related disorders. We cannot guarantee that we can meet the needs of everyone on the autistic spectrum, and therefore we strongly recommend that parents/carers telephone or email us first to discuss the specific needs of the individual(s) in their party. We will do our best to implement special requirements prior to arrival. During your stay at Palmeiras we cannot guarantee that we will be available to assist you at all times.

"The Villa was perfect for us as a family and our son had plenty of room to escape.
We lived in the pool, and I even managed to do some drawing and take some great photos.
Claire and Hans were a tremendous support to us and Claire's food was gorgeous!
With kind regards and thanks for providing such a terrific opportunity"

"This was our first holiday since Max's diagnosis of Autism and we were a bit apprehensive, but it worked out perfectly and he was brilliant. The pool was lovely and Hans was great support! We had a great time on the beaches - some of which we were the only people on!! The info material in the villa/cottage really helped - thanks for that! Also all the baby stuff you provided was great! We would really like to return one day!"
